- The upgrade is being released in anticipation of the planned switch to Ethereum.
- Opera’s standalone Crypto Browser debuted in January of this year.
Opera Crypto Browser is a Web3 browser that is designed to be compatible with many types of decentralized applications (dApps). It currently works with third-party wallets such as MetaMask.
The upgrade, which has been called “one of the most significant updates since its inception” by the Oslo-based company, is being released in anticipation of Ethereum A switch planned for later this week from the more resource-intensive Proof of Work (PoW) consensus algorithm to the one that is least difficult proof of stake (PoS) model.
Susie Butt, Crypto Ecosystem Lead at Opera stated:
“The upcoming merger is the most significant technical update in crypto history that will move Ethereum from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake, making it more scalable, secure, sustainable, and ready for use by mainstream users.”
One-stop shop for users
Opera’s standalone Crypto Browser debuted in January of this year and is compatible with both the company’s standard Web2 browser and with other popular cryptocurrencies. Besides compatibility with the native dApp and non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet, it also contains Crypto Corner, a one-stop shop for industry information including pricing data, key indicators such as gas fees, market sentiment, how-to guides, and a schedule of upcoming events.
Bitcoin, Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Chain, Celo, FIO, Near and Nervos are all compatible with the Opera Crypto mobile browser. Moreover, on PC, users can access built-in support for Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Polygon.
Users are no longer limited to a wallet other than the browser’s built-in clipboard when interacting with a decentralized application or site. Thanks to Wallet Selector, they can choose any wallet extension from Google Chrome or the Opera Store.
The new wallet selector is an aggregate of existing wallet extensions. Moreover, it simplifies the linking procedure by keeping track of the user’s favorite websites.
